EM WORKSHOP

Emergency medicine is a field of medicine involving quick decision-making skills as well as the ability to assess disasters and treat patients with acute illnesses with the clock ticking.

Tempus Pretioso, the emergency medicine club of KMC Manipal held their EM workshop on 24th May at 6pm in the clinical skills lab. The workshop commenced with the active engagement of 1st and 2nd year students.

The workshop emphasised on polishing some essential skills such as airway management and intubation. As these procedures are highly time-sensitive, the readiness of students and medical professionals is highly crucial.

Management of snake bites was also taught to the students which is important considering the geographical location of Manipal. The students were also instructed on how to do skilled tests like ABG and starting IV lines while giving them adequate practice on the mannequins with close assistance.

Overall, the workshop accentuated the importance of being vigilant as emergency medicine requires quick attention and problem-solving skills. The students inferred these skills which will help them develop better understanding while working as health professionals in the future.

RUSH HOUR

On 27th May 2024, the emergency medicine club of KMC Manipal- Tempus Pretioso organised an event called ‘Rush Hour’ to celebrate World Emergency Medicine Day.

There were two thrilling competitions organised for the participants:

The first event was called EM Across in which participants were sent on an adventure across the campus to solve problems and find various lab values to reach a final diagnosis by unpuzzling a crossword. Out of the 8 participating teams, the top 4 teams reached the next level to participate in the final competition called Dil’EM’ma.

A challenging obstacle course was set up in the clinical skills lab that tested the finalists on their quick thinking, ability to function under pressure and essential emergency skills. Participants were to save all patients before the ticking bombs exploded. Some of the skills assessed were CPR, endotracheal intubation, ABG, splinting and wound care. Additionally, players had to solve some theoretical cases quickly in order to diffuse the bombs. It was indeed an electrifying competition that gave the participants an adrenaline rush of excitement.

The talented winners of the competition were:
🥇Advait and Jagruti
🥈Manasvi and Anjika

Congratulations to all the winners and we hope to experience many more entertaining and informative workshops from Tempus.
