IQMU FINALS

The IQMU finals, held on 18th September from 8 a.m. onwards, were an event to behold. With 6 teams competing over 6 rounds, an intense battle of wits too place at T.M.A. Pai halls. 

The 1st round was on medical trivia with Arjun Balakrishnan as the quiz master. 

The 2nd round called Clinical Cognizance was dedicated to performing clinical tests of orthopaedics and the quiz master was Dr.  Bishakh Reddy from Sports Medicine. 

The 3rd round was Medicogenesis, 4th round was Rapid Fire, 5th was a buzzer round and th 6th round was surprise round having the flagship of IQMU finals called PLINKO in which participants drop a ball which then falls into a category and they get to choose a question accordingly. 

The quiz master for the last 4 rounds was Dr. Avinash Rao G., who is a KMC Manipal alumnnus and has won the first 3 editions of IQMU.

2nd position🥈 – Adish Joshi and Sai Sriya from KMC Manipal 

3rd position🥉 – Tanvi Achanti and Sneha Saxena from KMC Manipal

EUREKA 2.0

Eureka 2.0 was an event designed by the innovation club of KMC, Manipal, to facilitate the integration of creativity and brilliance in a healthcare setting. 

This dynamic gathering of visionary minds, held on the morning of 18th September, the final day of Vedam, aimed to create a better future by promoting collaboration, ingenuity and problem-solving amongst those who are best posed to understand and eventually eliminate the critical challenges facing the medical field today. 

With themes such as ‘Telemedicine & Remote Healthcare Solutions‘, ‘Healthdata Analytics & Predicitive Modelling‘, and ‘Patient Safety & Medical Error Reduction‘, it’s no wonder that the Interact Hall chosen as the event’s venue saw a veritable treasure chest of incredible ideas, with the best suggestions coming from those who earned positions on the dias. Their presentations were judged by a renowned panel comprising Dr. Joseph Thomas, Professor and HOD, Department of Plastic Surgery, Dr. Ganesh Paramasivam, Associate Professor, Department of Cardiology and Dr. Rangan Viveganandan, co-founder XeA Innovations.

The event proved to be a wonderful success, with participants leaving the session with food for thought that would be certain to produce ideas that could one day revolutionise the medical field. 

DEATH DISSECTED

Justitia, Kmc’s very own forensics club held a workshop in association with the Anatomy Department called “Death Dissected” for Vedam 2024. The event was centered around teaching participants about various techniques used in forensic medicine. The event was headed by members Tarunya, Arunisha, Dharmistha and Nikita. The participants were divided into two groups and each group was then taken to either the dissection hall to be taught about internal examinations or a demo room to be shown external examinations. In the external examinations the participants were skillfully taught about crime scene investigations, wound analysis, injury due to firearms and sexual assault examinations. In the external examinations the participants were informed about various incisions made in the forensics department, viscera removal, viscera packing and storing. Various specimens were also kept so that participants could understand viscera packing better. Lastly, multiple tools used by our very own forensics department in procedures were also displayed and explained to the participants. A very big thank you to Dr. Pranav from the forensics department for helping out with this workshop. The event ended with a heated quiz between the participants, who’s winners were Anik and Anant Jha.

CLOSING CEREMONY

The annual academic fest, Vedam 2024, came to a spectacular close on the 18th of September at KMC Manipal, marking a significant celebration of knowledge and innovation. Hosted by Prakhya Gupta and Ishita Sharma, the closing ceremony drew participants, faculty, and distinguished guests who gathered to recognize the remarkable achievements of the students.

A special acknowledgement was given to Amboss, the sponsor of the event, for their support and as a nudge to their informative and well-rounded medical app, which has become an essential resource for medical students and professionals.

As the hosts noted, the ceremony was bittersweet, embodying both a celebration of achievements and a farewell to a cherished event. The awards were presented in several categories, showcasing the hard work and dedication of the participants.

International Quiz for Medical Undergraduates:

The ceremony kicked off with the awards for IQMU, presented by Aaryan Singh and Sidharth Polasani.

🥈2nd place: Adish Joshi & Sai Sriya Yadavalli – Cash Prize: ₹12,000

🥉3rd place: Sneha Saxena & Tanvi Achanti – Cash Prize: ₹8,000

In addition to cash prizes, winners received textbooks across various medical subjects like forensic medicine, toxicology, emergency medicine etc.

Vanshita Kapoor, head of SRF took the stage to present the Case Presentation Awards, recognising excellence in both oral and poster presentations across multiple specialties.

Followed by Realms of Remedies, conducted by Tempus Pretioso, KMC’s very own emergency medicine club, gave out awards presented by Vishnu Kallepalli,

Eureka, conducted by Incandescent, KMC’s Innovation club presented by Shambhavi Jyoshi  and Arjun Khade, gave out awards for first 3 teams.

As the closing ceremony drew to a close, Vanshita Kapoor and Nithya Krishnan presented their vote of speech commending the crew for their hard work and dedication and participation for their enthusiasm. The event showcased academic excellence and fostered a sense of community among future medical professionals. This was perfectly encapsulated by the Afterfilm presented, made by LUMEN, showing a comprehensive guide of VEDAM 2024- packed together with the wonderful memories and enriching skills learnt over the course of these 4 days. 

With heartfelt thanks to all participants, sponsors, and organizers, the ceremony encapsulated the spirit of collaboration and learning that defines KMC Manipal. KMC looks forward to welcoming everyone back for next year’s Vedam, promising to be even more dynamic and impactful.
