Cutting Edge : ONCALL-OGY 2.0

Saturday May 13, Cutting edge introduced us to ONCALL-OGY 2.0. This version of oncall-ogy was an interactive offline session with 3 of the eminent and enthusiastic onco-surgeons.
We had Dr. Shailesh Shrikhande, Deputy director of TATA Memorial Hospital Mumbai and Head of GI Onco-surgery Department; Dr. Manish Bhandare, Professor, GI Onco-surgery Department at Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai and Dr. Nawaz Usman, associate professor and unit head of surgical oncology at Kasturba Medical College, Manipal.

The session was interactive and interesting and in about one and a half hour session, they talked about their experiences, their journey, what motivated them and what didn’t and how they made it through. And believe me, it wasn’t like any other boring talk sessions. Dr. Shailesh had been a cricketer and has played with legends like Sachin Tendulkar and has performed more than 260 live surgeries, with over 2 decades of experience , so ofcourse students who attended weren’t disappointed with the amount of knowledge and experience that reflected in their words. The latter two surgeons have been students of Dr. Shailesh only, so the session remained lively and there were sprouts of laughter in the hall when they talked about their personal memories.

All three of them gave a new perspective to students’ problems and doubts, a better insight towards surgery and medicine thereby keeping up the spark of learning and growing up as a capable medical professional.
