FEBRENSICS 2025

LEVEL UP: 17.02.2025

Justitia, KMC’s Forensic Medicine Club, kicked off their Febrensics week with Level Up, an event exclusively for the first years. The questions had their base in anatomy, biochemistry, and physiology with a forensic twist, giving participants the opportunity to apply what they’ve learnt in medical school so far. Barred from using cell phones, participants could brush up concepts and revise in an interactive way. The cases were organised in multiple levels, with an overarching storyline that revealed itself as participants conquered each stage. Those who surpassed the first two levels competed in teams to think their way out of an escape room and reach the highest level of proficiency. Level Up was a huge success, paving the way for a week of creative and enjoyable events.

BLOOD AND BONES: 19.02.2025

Justitia’s workshop, ‘Blood n Bones’, offered a unique blend of theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience, delving deep into the fascinating topics of blood spatter analysis and anthropometry. The blood spatter segment captivated the attendees as they learned about the various patterns blood can form at crime scenes and how these patterns provide vital clues for solving criminal cases. After the detailed explanation, a practical demonstration followed, where a participant struck a blood-soaked sponge, allowing everyone to witness firsthand how different spatter patterns are created. In the Anthropometry section, participants were introduced to methods for analysing the anatomy and ageing process of bones. They explored key formulas and techniques to understand how bones change over time and used their newfound knowledge to actively engage in solving real-world cases based on anthropometric analysis. The workshop was attended by 30 participants and was successfully led by Vaidicka, Surabhi, and Shreya, who skilfully guided everyone through the content and practical demonstrations.

WHO IS SATAN: 22.02.2025

Febrensics 2025, the official month of Justitia, the Forensic Medicine Club of KMC Manipal, came to a dramatic close on 22nd February at 7:00 PM at Interact Halls. The event ended with an unforgettable collaboration with Aaghaz, the Drama Club of KMC Manipal, who presented a courtroom enactment of a crime that shocked the world. The event began with the court calling the case to the stand: the State of Texas vs. Andrea Yates. In this chilling case, Andrea Yates was accused of murdering all five of her children under the influence of postpartum psychosis, raising important questions about the role of forensic medicine in such complex cases. The audience was taken through a gripping reenactment of the day of the crime, with scenes that transported them back to the meeting between Andrea Yates and her husband, Rusty Yates, played by Navya Nahra and Tejas Jyani, respectively. Together, Justitia and Aaghaz brought to life the painful weight of societal expectations placed on young mothers and the anguish of unfulfilled desires. The play became even more intense as a sinister figure—a manifestation of Satan—emerged from Andrea’s darkest hallucinations, manipulating her into drowning her children as a twisted form of “cleansing”. Accompanied by the dramatic lighting and audio, the play takes on a life of its own, breathing suspense into its every breath until everyone is on their feet applauding a murder scene well done. The lawyers also played a pivotal role, passionately arguing their case to convince the jury—represented by the audience—of the many mistakes made by the defence. Their compelling performances made the courtroom drama even more gripping as they fought to secure their client’s freedom. As the play neared its conclusion, Justitia members took the stage, urging the audience to vote for Guilty or Not Guilty. As the night unfolded, it became clear why “Not Guilty” won the verdict, as the immense passion and trauma of Andrea Yates’ life were depicted so powerfully, leaving a lasting impression on all who witnessed the event.
